Patrick William O’Gorman died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at his home in Prineville, Ore., following a
four-year battle with brain cancer. He was 49.
Pat was born Feb. 8, 1968, to Dave and Marilyn O’Gorman in Pendleton, Ore. He graduated from
Hermiston High School in 1986. He earned an associate’s degree from Columbia Basin Community
College and then studied golf course management at New Mexico State University. An expert golfer and
lover of the game, he played on the golf teams for both colleges.
Pat met his wife, Jennifer (Merritt) O’Gorman, while coaching the golf team for Hermiston High
School. She was coaching the Crook County High School golf team when their teams conspired for them
to meet at the district tournament. They were married on July 24, 2004, in Prineville. The couple made
their home in Prineville, with their daughter, Merritt, age 11, and son, Graeme, 9.
Pat started his career in the golf industry during high school and college, working at Umatilla
Golf Course. After college he moved to Phoenix and attempted to play in the Nike Pro Golf Tour while
working as assistant irrigation manager at Karsten Golf Course at Arizona State University. He worked at
Manito Country Club in Spokane, Wash., and served as the construction superintendent at Deer Park
Golf Course in Deer Park, Wash. He moved to Montana and worked in golf course design and
construction in Havre, Mont., and also managed the Havre Ice Dome. After meeting his wife, he moved
to Central Oregon, where he worked at Pronghorn, Brasada and Meadow Lakes golf courses. He served
as the superintendent at Prineville Golf and Country Club and also owned and operated J & P Green
Keepers Lawn Care Business.
Pat was a three-time Eastern Oregon Amateur Golf champion and also the Pasco Amateur Golf
Champion. He enjoyed sports and was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year at Hermiston High School,
lettering in golf, cross country and basketball. He traveled to Canton, China, on an International Sports
Exchange for cross country running. He enjoyed playing ice hockey and served as a referee and goal
judge while living in Montana. He also loved fishing with his kids and spending time with his family.
Throughout his fight with brain cancer, Pat made it his mission to touch one person each day by
telling his story and talking about his faith. He truly believed that God was using him to spread His
message.
Pat is survived by his parents, Dave and Marilyn O’Gorman of Hermiston, wife Jennifer
O’Gorman, daughter Merritt Grace O’Gorman and son Graeme Patrick O’Gorman of Prineville. He was
