Mildred Mary Elizabeth Floyd Basey Nelson of Prineville passed on August 12, 2016 at the age of 95 years. She was born September 10, 1920, in the Lone Pine Valley, to parents Noah W. Floyd and Lucy Ellen Bearce Floyd. Mildred was the fourth child of eight children. She grew up on a farm near O’Neil, Oregon. In 1938, she married W. I. (Bill) Basey. They had four daughters. In 1956, they moved to Southeast Alaska where they lived until 1974 when Bill died. Mildred then moved back to Prineville in 1974 and married Charles Ray Nelson.
She loved vegetable and flower gardening, crocheting, and her family. She enjoyed gold panning near Ketchikan, Alaska. Mildred worked in the Ketchikan General Hospital and was a foster parent to many children.
She is preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, two husbands, and one daughter, Ethel Weatherly. She is survived by three daughters, Crystal Hillberry, Leona Coleman and Patricia Myers, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed.
