Irene Elizabeth (Voreyer) Holdren
January 16, 1923 ~ March 1, 2018
Irene Holdren, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2018 surrounded by Family in her home just south of Prineville, Oregon. Born to Christine Marie Burkhard and William Fredrick Voreyer in San Diego, California January 16, 1923. Irene met her handsome future Husband, LeRoy Dennis Holdren at the age of 17, while attending a dance class. They married on September 21st 1942 and shared 70 plus years of marriage. LeRoy preceded her in death.
Irene’s Career was Teaching. She held a Masters Degree; Reading Specialist-Special Education for grades K-8. She was in the classroom for 24 years inspiring hundreds of children to love reading; love learning. She wrote and published Children’s Books to help her students. One about Bees is still listed on Amazon Books to this day.
Her Hobbies and talents included oil painting, sewing, embroidery, piano, and Genealogy research. Irene wrote and published her autobiography that includes tales of her Grandfather Burkhard who was instrumental in the founding of a small town in Southern Florida which is now called Miami. This book can be found in numerous Libraries across the United States.
Irene is survived by her Daughters, Irene married to Alan Fackrell of Sweethome, Or. and Lynda married to Thomas Massingham of Prineville, Or. 9 Grandchildren, 29 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great/Great Grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 9th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Located on 2nd street in Prineville at 10:30am. Internment will be 2:00pm at Juniper Haven Cemetery in Prineville.
