Evelyn Joy Bishop passed with peace and grace on October 19, 2016 with her family at her side.
Predeceased by her loving husband Bud, after 60 years of marriage. Survived by daughter Nancy “Lane” Tollen of Rogue River OR and son Jack Bishop (Beverly) of Prineville; Four grandsons Mark Tollen, WA, Erick Tollen, OK, Brian Bishop, OR, Justin Bishop, ID; eight great-grandsons, two great-great grandsons and one great-great granddaughter.
Evelyn was born March 18, 1921 in the Upper Valley of O’Dell, OR. She enjoyed crochet/knitting, camping, dancing and singing. 1938-1942 KBND National Broadcasting sponsored her ½ hour live program she opened and closed her show singing “Just A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet.” After relocating from Bend, Evelyn made her everlasting home in Prineville. She worked at the Bank Drug store, and was employed for sixteen years by Don Gear at the Prineville Bakery. Served as AARP President. As an member of the local Eagles, she actively moved through the chairs, held numerous positions including President and was the recipient of multiple honors including State Grandmother of the Year, National Service Award and President of Past Presidents.
How she enjoyed her dear friends, and the loving support she received through the years; she never met a stranger.
The love of her life was her growing family. She listened when no one else would, encouraged our dreams and always believed in each and every child whether grown or toddling. She told us to respect ourselves so others would; loved us despite our flaws,
helped us through our tests and trials, and baked the best bread pudding in the world.
Our mother... Our grandmother… Our great and great-great grandmother: The older the fiddle, the sweeter the tune! Beyond measure her family adored her! Evelyn was the strength, wit, humor, glue and passion that has kept our family united and made us resilient. We celebrate her life… As we should.
Evelyn’s celebration of life will be held at the Prineville Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5 at 12:00 noon. There will be a small reception afterward and the family has ask that in lieu of flowers, please gift St. Charles Hospice who gave so generously and loved so freely.
