Eleanor Jean (Warriner) Hockett

Eleanor Jean Hockett passed away August 9, 2015. She was 94.

Eleanor was born on February 28, 1921 to Mary and Howard Warriner in Watertown, SD, one of five children. She died of natural causes in Prineville, her home of 23 years.

After growing up in South Dakota, Eleanor attended Northern State Teachers College in South Dakota. In 1943 she married C.A. Hockett, a pilot in the Air Force during World War II. While C.A. was over seas, Eleanor moved to California with their infant daughter, Jean. In 1945 the family moved to the Eugene, OR area where two more daughters (Mary and Linda) were born. 1950, the family moved to Madras. Eleanor went to work at U.S. Bank in Madras then took a bookkeeping position with the Wasco Grain Growers. After several years in Wasco and the birth of their son, Bill, Eleanor and C.A. moved back to the Eugene area where their son graduated from high school and she went to work for Oregon Cedar until her retirement in 1991. After retirement, Eleanor and C.A. moved to Prineville.

In retirement, Eleanor and C.A. enjoyed being campground hosts during the summers at Little Crater, south of Bend. She also volunteered at the Neat Repeat and spent many hours knitting with a local group of ladies. Eleanor enjoyed family, knitting, crocheting, reading and working in her yard. She always planted red geraniums because her husband liked red. She taught many people to knit and used her talents to make sweaters and afghans for family and helmet liners for deployed soldiers.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and a grandson (Jere Breese). She is also preceded in death by her siblings Jesse, Cathlyn, Lynn and Louise. She is survived by her children Jean (Doug) Breese, Mary (Bob) Cyphers and Linda (Kenny) Blagg; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
