August 30, 1948 to May 24, 2016. Dan Dean of Prineville passed away May 24, 2016, at St. Charles Hospital after a five-year battle with cancer. Mr. Dean was born August 30, 1948, in Marianna, Arkansas to Ernest Alvin and Madeline Arlene (West) Dean. Dan worked 40 years for C. H. Murphy Co., retiring in 2013. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local #1. Dan married Kay Zinzer in 2013.
In his youth, Dan was an avid long-distance runner. He held many school records, and was a member of the Portland Track Club and Amateur Athletic Union. Dan represented March Air Force Base in the AAU Senior National Cross Country Championship in 1971 with the likes of Frank Shorter, Jim Ryun, and Steve Prefontaine.
Dan is survived by his wife Kay; daughter Tammy Dean (Darius Lindell) of Portland, sons Daniel Dean (Erich Treeby) of Portland, and Zachary Dean (Katrin) of Bad Nauheim, Germany; grandchildren Jake and Lila Lindell of Portland, and Jason Dean of Germany; sisters Ann Ryan (Dan) of Ridgecrest, California and Joyce Gieszler (Mike) of Hillsboro, Oregon; brothers Jimmy Dean (Carmella) of Camano Island, Washington and Larry Dean of Alpine, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces. Dan was particularly close to his nephew Troy Dean and became a grandfather to Troy’s children Cody and Emma Dean.
A celebration of life, with military honors, will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Prineville Funeral Home,199 NE 10th Street , Prineville Oregon 97754, followed by a reception.
In Lieu of flowers the family would like donation be made to the Cancer Center at St Charles for all of their valiant work.
