Daniel Joseph Carter, 73, was born July 11, 1941 in Bonanza, Oregon to Alonzo Ellsworth and Lillie May (Howe) Carter. He passed away May 23, 2015 in Prineville, Oregon surrounded by loved ones. There will be a celebration of life Saturday, June 6, at 1:00p.m. at Prineville Funeral Home for friends and family.

He met the love of his life, MaryLou (Roberts) through a friendship with her older brother, Lloyd. Dan was a jack of all trades who worked in saw mills, potato sheds and haying, but was best known as a fence builder. Dan built fence throughout most of Oregon for BLM and private ranchers. Dan was a hard worker and a loving husband and father, often times sacrificing his needs for those of his family. Dan and MaryLou moved to Mitchell, Oregon and in later years, ran the Mitchell transfer station. They resided there for 20 years until his cancer diagnosis. Dan loved to hunt, fish and garden-especially caring for his roses.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, MaryLou; sons Lonny Carter and wife Linda of Prineville; Daniel Carter and wife Machelle of Prineville; daughters Laura Lapping and husband Mark of St. Helens; Cathy May and fiancé Jared of Spokane, Wa; adopted son, Shawn Carter and girlfriend Morgan of Terrebonne; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is also survived by brother, Ed Carter of Prineville; sisters Peggy Ayers of Egnar, Colorado, Sally Canon of Dove Creek, Colorado, Patsey Bennett of Prineville, Oregon, Billie Baskett of Dove Creek, Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Lillie; brothers Bob, Jack, and Herb; sisters Lila and Elline.
